The incident occurred at the Manora MLA hostel in South Mumbai, according to a source in the hostel.
The minister and his woman guest were in one of the rooms on the first floor of the hostel when his wife barged in.
On seeing her husband with the woman, the wife flew into a rage and beat her up. She didn't spare her husband either.
No official complaint has been lodged. The minister, hailing from Vidarbha, is a new entrant to the Cong-NCP ministry in the state, the source said.
The minister's wife was in Nagpur and was expected to arrive in Mumbai only the next day.
However, the wife got wind of what her husband was up to and took the last flight to Mumbai, the source said.
