ICSE or state board HSC and SSC are concerned, it is the girls having all the fun.
On Thursday, the story was repeated when the girls brigade again trounced the boys army in results of state board Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination. Overall, the pass percentage among girls was 84.80 among regular candidates while for boys it was a shade lower at 83.71. The story was same across all divisions. The difference is more pronounced among toppers.
“The last time a boy topped the charts in Nagpur division was in 2002 when Prajwal Mahatme emerged as topper after a huge controversy. A boy from Satara, Gaurav Kulkarni topped the state SSC list last year,” divisional board secretary of Nagpur division Shriram Chavan told TOI.
“The girls are sincere and hardworking whereas boys possess are more prone to distractions and rebelling against teachers. The girls also regularly do their homework while most boys are irregular and do not concentrate on studies,” Somalwar Ramdaspeth School principal Chintamani Rane told TOI.
Indeed, this year all top positions across all categories were bagged by girls who also emerged toppers in most divisions. Shilpa Basavraj Hiremath of Latur led them by scoring a whopping 98.61% (641/650) to emerge overall topper in the state. She was followed by Shruti Surushe of Bharat Vidyalaya, Buldhana, with 97.79% (635/650) and Ashwini Marathe of Somalwar Ramdaspeth with 97.53% (634/650) at second and third spots respectively.
Even among night category candidate, a girl Sonal Singh of Canoca Night School in Mumbai, grabbed top slot by scoring 84.15%. Among backward category, though a boy Piyush Sawant of Annasaheb Kalyani Vidyalaya emerged state topper with 97.07%, Madhuri Dighore of Latur notched up second position with 96.76%. The third position in state was jointly bagged by Tisha Gajbhiye and Rohan Dhakite from Nagpur with 96.61% marks.
Among the handicapped, Ankita Manjramkar from Nanded bagged third position with 94.76% marks.
Other divisions also showed same trend. Sonali Chavan of Saraswati Secondary School in Thane, topped Mumbai division with 96.46% marks while Anjali Jadhav of AP Goregaonkar Engineering School, Goregaon, topped in backward class category with 95.84%.
