Brave girl and friend's mom foil kidnap bid

Priyanka's teacher had instructed her class never to take food or money from strangers. The 9-yearold's troubling experience the very
next day made her realize the value of teacher's words. After school got over, Priyanka Tiwari, a fifth standard student of Sindhi Hindi School, Khamla, would usually go to her friend Kiran's place from where her father would pick her up.

A tiff with her friend ensured that she was alone at the school gate on Monday afternoon. She decided to wait in a store some distance away where a neighbour worked. At around 1.30 pm, Priyanka returned to the gate to check on her father. Not finding him there, she was returning when a man unknown to her offered her a toffee. But the child had taken her teacher's lessons seriously.

"She loves chocolates. I am surprised and thankful that she quietly threw it away," said her relieved mother
Nisha. The stranger then told the little girl that her father had sent him to fetch her. When Priyanka protested,
the man said he was a very close friend of her father who had asked him to drop her home. "He then gave me Rs 30 and asked me to spend it the way I wanted. I went back to the shop where I was waiting and bought a pen for myself. I also wanted to alert my neighbour but I couldn't find him there," said Priyanka.

As she was returning the remaining money back to the stranger, he grabbed her hand. The brave kid scratched the man's hand to free herself and ran towards her friend Kiran's place. Meanwhile, Kiran's mother, Renika Bind, after learning about the friends' tiff and that Priyanka was sitting alone at the store had asked her daughter to get Priyanka back. Just as Kiran came out, she saw Priyanka running in her direction and a young man following
her. She shouted out for her mother who came running outside.

Between tears, Priyanka relayed to Renika how the stranger was trying to take her away. Renika asked Priyanka to sit inside saying that she would deal with it. "He even came and sat on the bench outside our home and asked me to call Priyanka.

He told me that he was Priyanka's uncle. Knowing the family, I knew he was lying. I called Priyanka's father,"
she said.

The man who had kept on abusing Renika started to run at the mention of Priyanka's father. Renika asked a passer-by to catch him and also got a stick from the house.

Soon, a large crowd gathered and started beating up the youth. Soon Priyanka's father Ramesh reached along with police. The 21-year-old youth was identified as Mangesh Khobragade, a resident of Vaishali Nagar. He was arrested by the Rana Pratap Nagar police for attempting to kidnap.
