Cheers! 1,400 new bifocal seats in city

Students who failed to get or take admission to bifocal courses have a reason to cheer. The Maharashtra government on Wednesday increased

the bifocal seats by 1,400 in Nagpur district. With this development, the total number of seats for bifocal courses has reached 3,957.

According to information, the education department had received as many as 5,500 applications for 2,557 seats for XI bifocal courses. As a result, this year the cut-off rate was very high and admissions to the courses closed at 85%. Last year, the cut off was 75%.

The state government then decided to increase the admission capacity for bifocal courses in 28 colleges in the district. The government has increased seats for bifocal courses like computer science, electronics, and freshwater fish culture. The prominent colleges which were given permission to take in extra students for the courses include Dharampeth Science College, Dinanath High School, V M V College, Saraswati Vidyalaya, Vimal Tai Tidke Junior College, Nandanwan Junior College, Ravi Junior College (Siraspeth), Pandit Bachhraj Vyas College (Rajabaksha), Prerna Junior College (Reshimbagh) and Vidya Niketan (Ring Road).

Principal of Dharampeth Science College A R Aipatwar confirmed the development and said more students would be admitted in bifocal courses now. He said the college has got permission to run two more additional classes for electronics and computer science. In each section, 50 students would be admitted, he explained.

Dinanath High School and Junior college also got permission to run two additional classes for electronics and computer science. Similarly, the government has also increased seats of bifocal courses in other districts of the region including Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, Wardha and Gadchiroli.
