Nagpur news:- Medical admissions first list out Nagpur

The Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) has released the first merit list of students selected for health science
courses on Friday. "About 25 out of 168 students allotted Government Medical College (GMC), Nagpur, reported on the first day," Dr Manoj Jeevtode, centre in-charge for first year medical admissions at GMC Nagpur, told TOI.

At least four students from Vidarbha region have found their names in the list topped by the MHT-CET topper Shagun Shah. Amravati's Sajal Chiddarwar who had secured first position in Vidarbha in MHT-CET exam figured at the fourth spot. Three city girls, including state HSC topper Almas Nazim, were at 16th, 17th and 18th positions respectively. Ritu Goenka and Mrunmayee Deshpande occupied other two spots.

Among first 25 students, only two including city's Nazim and second MHT-CET topper Mitali Golecha opted for the Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) in their respective region. All others, including Chiddarwar, Goenka and Deshpande, opted for Seth GS Medical College better known as King Edwards Memorial College, Mumbai.



Lokmanya Tilak Medical College and Topiwala Nair National Medical College in Mumbai were other popular choices of the students. The last date of joining the respective colleges is July 27. The cut-off date of the admission process for MBBS and BDS is September 30.

The DMER has also released a list of physically handicapped candidates among which 20 were found fit and 19 unfit. A total of 7,265 seats were available for health sciences courses in state of which 2,060 are MBBS seats in 18 government-run medical colleges and 240 BDS seats in four government dental colleges in Maharashtra. Additionally, there are also 118 pharmacy institutes with 6,935 seats in the state.

Dr Jeevtode informed that among MBBS seats, 500 are in Vidarbha. The GMC and IGGMC are having 200 and 100 MBBS seats respectively while there are 100 MBBS seats each in GMCs at Akola and Yavatmal. There are 40 seats in Government Dental College in Nagpur.
