state government has sanctioned a plethora of new courses and sections in over 50 existing colleges affiliated to the university.
University sources said new courses like bachelor of foreign trade, business economics, BBA with specialisation in marketing and international business, BSc (bioinformatics), masters in fashion designing, were being introduced for the first time here. Till now, such courses are being conducted only by private institutes in the region.
Many old and renowned colleges have now got the nod to run these new courses in the city. The bachelor of foreign trade and business economics would be conducted by Tirpude College of Social Work while LAD College would run masters in fashion designing. The Shivaji Science College was approved to conduct post graduate diplomas in Operational Research and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). The BBA in logistics and supply chain management will start at Dr Ambedkar Institute of Management Studies and Research that recently received permission from AICTE to conduct autonomous post graduate diploma in management.
Outside the city, only JM Patel College of Arts and Commerce in Gondia received approval to conduct certificate/advance courses in Russian, German, French, Arabic and Chinese languages.
Besides these, in-demand courses like BBA, BCA, BCom (computer applications), bachelor in journalism (BJ), bachelor in library science (BLib), and post graduate diploma in computer commercial applications (PGDCCA), had the highest demand from the colleges. A majority of colleges in rural areas of six districts in university jurisdiction received nod to conduct traditional courses like BA, MA, and MSc in various subjects.
The university officials revealed that though the students' community was going to benefit from introduction of these courses, it will add to burden of university employees, especially of the examination department. For a university already groaning under the weight of excessive work-load, that can only make situation worse.
