Nagpur, Kolhapur start with a bang

Teams from Nagpur and Kolhapur started off their campaign with a bang as they registered thumping victories over their opponents in the main draw of the all-India Ambedkar memorial hockey tournament at Ammunition Factory ground in Khadki on Wednesday.

Nagpur defeated Amravati 4-2 while Kolhapur ruled the day with a 9-0 win over Bhusaval Railway.  Rahul Kalakutti’s brace proved instrumental in guiding Nagpur to victory. He struck in the 10th minute of the game and then set the stage for Rahul Suryavanshi to score in the 26th minute. Thakur Gokhalani netted the third goal in the 49th minute, which was followed by Kalakutti’s second goal in the 56th. For Amravati, both goals were scored by Amit Sohel (43rd and 50th).

The second match of the day saw Bhusaval Railways being mauled by Kolhapur as Sameer Bhosale, Rahul Gavade and Abhimanyu Bhosale ripped apart Bhusaval’s defence. Yogesh Bharmal kick-started the goal-spree in the 6th minute and there was no stopping them after that. Rahul Gavade (10th, 36th), Sameer Bhosale (24th, 43rd, 47th) and Abhimanyu (40th and 56th) broke Bhusaval’s backbone and denied them a chance to score a single goal.
