Over 9,500 Std XI forms not submitted

A day after sale and submission of forms for Standard XI came to an end, the huge difference between the number of forms sold and submitted has baffled the state education department officials conducting the centralised admission process (CAP) in the city.

As against 33,647 forms sold at 32 forms distribution centres, only 24,116 forms were submitted by the students. The huge difference of 9,531 forms has left the officials bewildered, and they are trying to ascertain the reasons behind this. The figures did not improve even though the last date of form sale and submission was extended by a day. The figures indicate that a large number of junior college seats are set to remain vacant in the city, unlike last year.

However, assistant director of education in Nagpur Rajendra Godhne downplayed the difference, saying that generally students buy two or three forms and then submit only one.

He however admitted that still the process of scrutinisations of the forms was underway and the real reason behind this difference could be gauged only after that.

The city has nearly 17,000 science and 15,000 commerce seats in 150 odd colleges taking part in the centralised admission process.

Godhne, who is also in-charge of CAP for Std XI, however didn't rule out the possibility that many students who purchased the forms had not submitted them since they had already sought admission in institutes under different quotas.

"For bifocal courses, there is 10% management quota in junior colleges. Then there is 50% minority quota in all minority or linguistic colleges. Additionally, there is 20% quota for schools having their own junior colleges. For all these admissions, there is no need to submit the forms," he said.

Though Godhne admitted the possibility of large number of seats remaining vacant, unlike last year when there was a mad rush for seats, he said that admissions to bifocal courses will be even tougher this year. This is being blamed on the aggregate percentages, which have surged due to 'best five' and the liberal marking scheme.

The provisional list of bifocal courses will be released today at 11am on the websites of CAP admission committee as well as deputy director of education. The final list will be released on July 28 while spot admissions will commence from July 29 and continue till August 8.
