Raut wants fresh probe nagpur

Dairy development minister Nitin Raut, who belongs to SC community, has written a letter to chief minister Ashok Chavan urging him to convene a special meeting to discuss the verdict of Nagpur bench of Bombay high court on the Khairlanji issue.

The meeting should be attended by: chief minister, deputy chief minister, law and judiciary minister, social justice minister, political office-bearers, advocate general, advocates of CBI, Bhandara district collector, Bhandara superintendent of police, the then Bhandara SP, the then CID investigating officers, government pleaders, director general of police (atrocity) and CBI investigating officers, Raut has appealed.

A letter written to the CM on July 26 demands that government should find out that who was responsible for mitigating the sentence of six accused in Khairlanji case. Bhandara district had sentenced six persons to death, two to life sentence and acquitted three persons. CBI appealed in Nagpur bench of Bombay high court seeking death sentence for the two persons sentenced to life and punishment for three acquitted persons. However, the reverse happened, Raut lamented.

The Nagpur minister further stated that inquiry has not been conducted into background of the accused persons. Secondly, Bhotmange family had lodged complaints at local and district level including with district collector and superintendent of police. It had also sent letters to state government. The action taken by the authorities on Bhotmange's complaints need to be found out.

Raut further demanded that a new independent FIR should be lodged in Khairlanji case and the aspects not covered by CBI in its investigation should be now investigated in depth.

The minister stated in the letter that several atrocities had been perpetrated on Dalits in the 'progressive' state of Maharashtra of late. Two Dalit girls were paraded naked in Shindi village of Beed district. A Dalit teacher Sadashiv Salve was murdered in Phule-Pimpalgaon village of Beed district. A Dalit woman was paraded naked on Reay Road.

These incidents had created discontent among Dalits. The Khairlanji verdict added fuel to fire, he said. The community has started feeling that law enforcement machinery was biased and that's why the guilty were acquitted every time.
