ZP sits on 1,000 cycles

Congress-ruled Zilla Parishad has failed to complete distribution of bicycles to students hailing from reserved category. In 2009-2010, the ZP had spent Rs 1.8 crore for purchasing 3,853 bicycles for backward category students. However, over 1,000 eligible students are yet to get the bicycle, claimed Bharatiya Janata Party leader and ZP member Anandrao Raut.

Raut blamed the ZP president Suresh Bhoyar for the delay and demanded that he should be booked under Atrocity Act as beneficiaries were from backward category. The ambitious scheme was launched by the central government to school dropout rate in rural areas. Raut said that the ZP had received applications from over 8,000 students.

He claimed that students of panchayat samitis (PS) that elected BJP candidates were the worst affected. Citing example, Raut said that ZP president Suresh Bhoyar belonged to Kamptee panchayat samiti, where the ZP identified 149 girls and 150 boys for the scheme. Of these 140 girls and 137 boys had already received their bicycles. In Mouda too, 289 of 298 sanctioned bicycles were distributed.

But in Umrer, as many as 286 cycles were sanctioned but only 190 distributed. In Nagpur, 300 bicycles (150 each for boys and girls) were sanctioned of which 110 were distributed among girls, while only 81 boys got them. For Hingna PS, 206 of 288 cycles were distributed.

In Bhivapur, 190 of 286 cycles sanctioned were distributed. In Kuhi 210 of 290 cycles sanctioned were distributed. In Ramtek, 289 cycles were allotted of which 232 were issued. In Parsheoni, 315 were sanctioned but 198 distributed. In Kalmeshwar PS, 296 bicycles were sanctioned but only 132 students including girls and boys got the benefit. In Katol, 295 bicycles were sanctioned, while only 241 were distributed and in Narkhed PS, 302 were sanctioned of which 201 received the bicycles, said Raut.
