MBA exam lingers on over 3 months!

Jobs are scarce. Good jobs are scarcer. Campus recruitments have dropped phenomenally owing to slowdown. In such a situation Nagpur University has made it tougher for MBA students by turning their examination into a never-ending exercise.

Consider the case of Sharad Munde, an MBA student in University's department of business administration.

Sharad was on cloud nine when he got an offer letter from Transport Corporation of India (TCI). He was asked to join in July. However, his dreams came crashing down with his examination schedule stretched over three months to end in July second week. Worse, the university has still not announced the dates of viva-voce and presentation. Sharad has already sought extension three times from his recruiter and he stands to lose the job if he extends it one more time.

Controller of examination (CoE) Debendranath Mishra, however, defended the situation saying circumstances were such that the university authorities could not have done it otherwise. He added that presentations and viva were supposed to happen after the exam and there was no delay as claimed by students.

Like Sharad, there are thousands who have either been selected by the companies or sought admissions to various other courses but are suffering. Their exams should have been over in May but even dates of practical exam have yet been announced.

"We have already lost two months. This is of concern for all students as we cannot join companies on the given date. All of us have sought extension in joining dates and we fear we will lose our jobs, for which we have worked very hard," Sharad said . He had to travel to and fro from Lucknow several times as he was called for company training.

He had to return to the city mid-way because of exams. Fortunately, the company was sympathetic and asked him to join by August 15.

There are eight other students in the department facing same problem. They complained that exam schedule did not follow the pattern they were told. Students were informed that the papers would be conducted back to back but nothing of sort happened.

"There was three to four day gap between papers. With over 63 subjects, the examination was stretched to more than three months, creating severe difficulties," another student said.
