NU yet to appoint contributory teachers

Due to the strange ways of Nagpur University, students continue to suffer. It’s been a month since the academic year started, but still, there are no signs of contributory lecturers, thanks to the university officials who are yet to clear their files.

As a result, none of the 39 departments have been able to make appointments. Students pursuing postgraduate courses have been left in the lurch due to the absence of nearly 50-odd teachers.

As it is, the university is facing a severe shortage of regular teachers as not even one has been appointed after the roaster scam was brought to the fore by TOI. The varsity was pulled up by the Nagpur bench of Bombay high court and the state government for not appointing full-time principals and lecturers.

Though officiating registrar and controller of examinations (CoE) Debendranath Mishra refused to comment, senior most member of NU’s academic and management councils, Dr Ved Prakash Mishra blasted the pathetic attitude of the officials terming the issue as ‘grave and serious’. “These lecturers are appointed every year. All departments have to send a list as per their workload and available faculty. This is an annual exercise and should have been done before the commencement of the academic year so that students do not suffer,” said Mishra.

“A calendar should be made and a timeframe should be set to clear important files. Teachers should be identified as per the requirement. This should have been done about two months before the start of the academic year in a time-bound manner. Ironically, no one cares,” Dr Mishra said.

A student said that since the lectures of contributory teachers were not being conducted, they will not be able to finish their vast syllabus before the exams. “It’s been over a month since our classes started. Even practicals are not being conducted due to the absence of teachers. since we don’t have any alternative, we have to sit at home,” he said.
