Pachpaoli cops nab notorious dacoit from WB

City police helped their Kolkata counterparts in netting a notorious dacoit from Sangharsh Nagar near Tipu Sultan chowk on Saturday evening. Abul Hussain, alias Mohammed Shamsher (23), was allegedly part of a six-member gang that had looted around Rs 27 lakh from a bank near Barrackpore in 24 Parganas district of West Bengal some days ago.

Titagarh police, which were probing the daylight robbery, were in the city following the trail. They had already netted a couple of gang members in Kolkata. Following the interrogations, the Bengal cops had learnt about Shamsher.

On July 23, six miscreants - equipped with firearms - had sneaked into the nationalised bank posing as customers. There were considerable rush in the bank when the dacoits started threatening the bank officials. Having looted the cash, the dacoits fled the premises after locking the customers inside the bank with the officials.

Kolkata police managed to procure the mobile number of Shamsher. Their probe suggested that he was making calls to his contacts in Nagpur. His location was also traced in the city. Kolkata police initially contacted Yashodhara Nagar cops but were referred to Pachpaoli police.

At Sangharsh Nagar, the Pachpaoli police team zeroed down on Shamsher following his mobile phone tower location. He was staying as a tenant at a local's residence. Pachpaoli police handed over Shamsher to Kolkata counterparts later in the evening.
