MAT admits OA seeking parity in retirement age

The Nagpur bench of the Maharashtra administrative tribunal (MAT) on Thursday admitted an original application ( OA) filed by former joint director of education GS Kale for final hearing.

A division bench comprising justice AP Deshpande and B Majumdar admitted the application after the state government failed to file a reply despite getting many chances.

Kale, seeking parity in retirement age with the director of medical education and research (DMER), joint director, deans and medical teachers working under DMER filed the case on July 31 before his retirement. He had contended that any favoured treatment to a particular section of government employees in the matter of superannuation will create resentment in others who are denied such benefit.

Earlier, the government resolution (April 30) raised the retirement age of DMER, joint director and medical teachers from 58 to 62 on the grounds that there was a staff crunch.

Kale contended that any discrimination between the DMER officers and the state education department on the question of superannuation is violative of Articles 14 and 16 of the Constitution.
