"Zilla Parishad's education department neglected guidelines framed by the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan for constructing classrooms in 13 tehsils in Nagpur district," alleged Shiv Sena's ZP member Tapeshwar Vaidya.
"Of the sanctioned classrooms, the department has cleared 36 within the jurisdiction of Nagar Parishads," alleged the Sena leader.
He added that ZP had shortlisted tehsil places to construct 294 classrooms.
The department will construct 37 classrooms in Kuhi, 42 in Kamptee, 33 in Umrer, 43 in Hingna, 4 in Nagpur, 8 in Kalmeshwar, 9 in Parsheoni, 12 in Bhivapur, 16 in Ramtek, 19 in Katol and 23 in Mouda.
Vaidya pointed out that ZP's primary job is to look after the developmental works in villages coming under the gram panchayats. "It (ZP) has grossly violated its responsibility by selecting construction of schools in Nagar Parishads like Kamptee, Katol, Saoner, Umrer and Narked," said Vaidya, adding, "As per the SSA guidelines, the ZP can only construct classrooms in gram panchayats. Despite the norms, it has shortlisted classrooms on the periphery of Nagar Parishads."
ZP will construct 20 classrooms for Nagar Parishad schools in Kamptee, 1 in Katol, 7 in Saoner, 5 in Umrer and 3 in Narked tehsils.
He further said that when he came to know about the construction of classrooms in Nagar Parishads he had filed an RTI query with the ZP education department on August 17 seeking guidelines for construction of classrooms under SSA. However, he is yet to get any reply.
