NU allows Raisoni college to conduct exam

The Nagpur University finally acted after TOI on last Friday reported about how students of GH Raisoni college of engineering were left in lurch-- both by the college management and by NU officials.

Vice-chancellor BV Gopala Reddy on Monday issued the permission to the college to conduct examination for its second, third and final year students. "We've issued orders today," he told TOI. However, he refused to comment on whether the NU will return the fees (approximately Rs 2,000) charged from every student. According to principal Preeti Bajaj, who was at the NU during the afternoon for seeking permission, told TOI that they had been granted the autonomy on May 25 itself by the UGC. She, however, refused to speak further.

After promising autonomy for all four years simultaneously, the GHRCE management then backed out while passing the blame on NU. After creating much hype on getting the autonomous status, the college then asked the students to fill up NU exam forms.

NU officials on other hand had claimed that though the college was granted autonomy, many issues were yet to be sorted out and, so, they were denied permission to conduct own exam. This includes conducting exam of students who either failed in earlier exam or got ATKT .

After TOI's report, the VC issued gag orders on all the officials not to talk to media. "We will be publishing a press note regarding any event and will dispatch to the press. No officer will give any information from now," officiating registrar Debendranath Mishra said.

Nonetheless, the aggrieved students heaved a sigh of relief after the conundrum between the college and NU was resolved. The college authorities on Monday informed them about getting green signal from NU. But they were concerned over the fees they paid to NU. "It's good that the college will conduct its own exam, but what about Rs 2,000 we paid to NU. Who will reimburse it? I failed to understand why the college authorities asked us to fill up the exam forms," a student asked.
