Robbers loot Rs 3.70 lakh in broad daylight

A 28-year-old man was relieved of Rs 3.70 lakh cash at knife-point on Wednesday afternoon. The incident took place around 2.15 pm behind the MSEDCL sub station in Hiwari Nagar. The victim, Dighori-resident Diwakar Paidalwar, is an employee of a private security agency Securitrans India Private Limited that has been contracted by Kotak Mahindra Bank for its home banking services, which involve carrying cash from select customers to the bank and vice versa.

According to the police, the theft took place when Paidalwar was on his way to Sitabuldi to deposit the cash collected from four customers. Of this, Rs 2.50 lakh was from Sanjay Jain, a resident of Itwari while the rest was from three persons residing at Gandhibagh. Paidalwar was riding his bike when two youths blocked his way. "Since they suddenly came in front of me, I stopped the bike. Before I could say anything, they asked me to give the bag. When I refused, one of them punched me in the face while the other took out a knife and held it to my throat," said Paidalwar.

A shaken Paidalwar lost his balance and fell down and the robbers snatched away the bag. They ran to the other side of the road, where an accomplice was waiting for them, and the trio fled on a bike. Paidalwar alerted passersby and one Roshan Samudre even chased the miscreants for nearly a kilometre before losing them. Samudre said the miscreants were riding a red TVS Victor and disappeared on a busy road at New Deshpande Layout. He could not note down the bike's registration number. Apan kiosk owner, who did not wish to be identified, said the robbers were waiting at his shop for around 20 minutes. "They also had a cigarette and gutkha from here. However, as soon as they saw the victim coming, they crossed the road and accosted him," he said. Cops said that since Paidalwar uses the route regularly, the robbers may have kept a watch on him and planned the strike. An offence has been registered at Nandanvan police station against the accused trio.
