NAGPUR :- Mumbai Legislators without seats delay train to Nagpur

Nagpur-bound Vidarbha Express got delayed by 50 minutes on Tuesday evening after a group of legislators held up the train when they did not get adequate seats. The train was supposed to leave the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) at 7pm but left at 7.50pm instead. Sources said a group of MLAs
were heading to Nagpur. However, five of them didn’t get confirmed berths in the air-conditioned coaches.

“They created a huge ruckus as everyone didn’t get a seat in the second AC coach even in the MLA quota,” said a senior Central Railway (CR) official who did not wish to be named.

The 24-coach train has only 30 seats reserved under the government/legislators quota. The officials then had to explain to the MLAs that the train was booked due to Diwali vacations.

There was chaos at the station and senior officials had to be sent to pacify the infuriated MLAs.

“We had exhausted all emergency quota seats. When we explained the situation to them, the MLAs adjusted in the limited space,” said S Mudgerikar, chief PRO, Central Railway.

A similar incident had occurred around two months ago when activists of the National Congress Party and the Shiv Sena had an altercation over the credit for the train to Konkan.

The train got delayed for over an hour and finally the railway police had to take the party members out of CST station.
