NAGPUR :-Third Adarsh link to Gadkari aide

The connection between the Sancheti family, known to be close to BJP president Nitin Gadkari, and the Adarsh Society scam just got deeper. Investigations by TOI revealed that Nagpur resident Rajesh Shantilal Bora, who was allotted a flat, is the brother-in-law of Abhay Sancheti, the chairman of the SMS Infrastructure Limited.

Abhay's nephew Ajay Sancheti, the vice-chairman and managing director of the SMS group, is an invitee on the BJP's national executive. Ajay is believed to have brokered a deal in the formation of the Jharkhand government recently. The company has business interests in coal mining, building highways, rail projects, dams and power infrastructure in a few states.

Family sources confirmed to TOI about Bora's relationship with Abhay. However, all Abhay would say was, "No comments, you know everything, so write whatever you want." This is the third known flat in Adarsh connected to the Sanchetis. Abhay's son Paramveer, a student in the UK, has one in his name. The second is in the joint name of Sudhakar Madke and three Sanchetis. Madke is a driver in SMS Group. After the Sanchetis' original application was rejected, they allegedly got a flat allotted in their driver's name. National spokesperson of the Congress, Manish Tewari had alleged last week that Gadkari was the benami holder of both the Sancheti flats. Gadkari has denied the allegations and also served a defamation notice on Tewari.

If Sanchetis are known to be one of the richest families in the region, the family of Bora, who is currently employed in Raipur and has a declared income of Rs 11,000 per month, lives in a modest rented flat at Sanket Apartments in Khare Town locality of Nagpur. The flat is, incidentally, is in the name of Dilip Surana who is a technical director with SMS Group as per the company website.

Curiously, the landline phone at Bora's residence is registered in the name of Abhay Sancheti. The phone number is what helped TOI trace the relationship between Bora and the Sanchetis. Under the RTI Act, TOI had learnt that there are six Nagpur residents on the Adarsh list. Apart from Paramveer Sancheti and Madke, the others were: Uttam Gakhare, Rajesh S Bora, Jagdish Prasad Sharma and Amar Singh Waghmare. When TOI spoke to a Rajesh S Bora, whose name is registered in the BSNL online directory, he denied having any flat in Adarsh. However, he revealed the number of another Rajesh S Bora. On checking with BSNL, it was learnt that the number is registered in the name of Abhay Sancheti.

At the registered address, TOI was met by a woman, Roshni Bora, who said she was Rajesh's wife. After initially refusing to reveal their relationship with the Sanchetis, Roshni said, "I have heard that they are some prominent business persons. We belong to the same community and that is the only link." On probing, Roshni confirmed that Rajesh's direct relation with Abhay.
