Your power bill set to go up!The Maharashtra Energy Regulatory Commission has allowed the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited to increase power tariff by 5% across the state.

The MERC decision, effective December 1, 2010 until August 2011, is likely to affect over 1.5 crore power consumers statewide. MERC's permission to levy higher electricity duty will further hike the consumers' bill. The monthly electricity bill of a residential consumer with a monthly consumption of 150 units will increase by around Rs 30. If his consumption is 500 units then it will go up by around Rs 150.
