Jawan nabbed with 2.50L brown sugar

Crime branch swooped down upon a duo, who was lodging at Santra market, on Monday evening and recovered 250 gm of pure brown sugar worth nearly 2.50 lakhs. One of them was a jawan, Amit Kumar Singh, who is posted at the Gorkha Training Centre in Benaras, and the other Ravi Kumar, 18.

A crime branch team led by senior inspector Madhao Giri raided the lodge after being tipped-off about two persons staying there with high quality brown sugar.

Police said that the duo, who hail from the same region in Bihar, had received the consignment in two small pouches of 125 gm each. They were waiting for instructions from a mastermind based in Bihar on whom to hand over the consignment. The cops are trying to zero down on the racket in the city.

Crime branch sources said that Singh had taken leave for delivering the consignment and earn some quick bucks. The duo had received some money and bus tickets for coming to Nagpur. A case under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) act was registered against the duo at Ganeshpeth police station.
