Polytechnic student dies in mishap

A ghastly road accident at Kadbi chowk on Tuesday morning claimed life of a second year polytechnic student driving without a helmet. Rajat Shukla, only son of his family, was declared dead at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital.

Rajat and his friend Ritesh Pandey, riding pillion, were heading to college at Sadar on their two-wheeler. A car drove close past them. Bamboozled by the speeding four-wheeler, Rajat seemed to have lost control of his bike trying to avoid a possible dash.

Police said Rajat's two-wheeler skidded on the road. As the students fell on the ground, they were hit by a truck coming from behind. Both sustained injuries but Rajat was seriously hurt. The truck sped away from the scene after the mishap. Ritesh picked up Rajat and rushed him to a nearby private hospital. Rajat was referred to IGGMCH. Family members of both the students and their classmates rushed to the hospital. There was a sizable crowd waiting outside IGGMCH mortuary too.

Rajat's father Binduprasad Shukla is employed as a senior clerk in the PhD cell of  Nagpur University. The maternal uncle of the deceased is posted as a constable with Government Railway Police (GRP), Wardha. Rajat was a bright student and popular among classmates.

Pachpaoli police have registered an offence against the unidentified truck driver for rash and negligent driving.
