Bardhan fondly recalls his Nagpur

Ardhindu Bhushan Bardhan, popularly known as Bhai Bardhan, has fond memories of his 55-year stay in Nagpur. Most of them are related to his struggle for the working class.

He misses the spirit of struggle in the city where trade unionism has become placid in the last two decades.

Bardhan does not regret the loss of capital city status for Nagpur from where he lost two Lok Sabha elections (1967, 80). But he bemoans the fact that Nagpur is no longer the cradle of political movements and loss of importance of winter session of the legislature.

"The city was a prominent centre of labour movement. It witnessed strikes in 50s and 60s for rights of working classes," he told TOI at the residence of a MSEDCL union leader on Saturday.
