Fun, frolic and masti ends with Yuvarang

Nagpur University vice chancellor Vilas Sapkal called on students to actively participate in cultural festivals like Yuvarang which helps them build teamwork. He was speaking at the valedictory function of the NU's festival at Buty Hall in the city on Thursday.

Dhanwate National College principal Babanrao Taywade, Radhikatai Pandav Charitable Trust president Girish Pandav, and director of students' welfare Ashvin Chandel and a large number of enthusiastic participants were present during the function which was delayed as folk dance events were not completed in time.

Around 129 colleges participated in this year's festival which was marred by chaos during the debate contest on the second day. However, participation of colleges was almost double as compared to last year.

"Learning teamwork is very important in student's life and it helps enhancing individual's skills. Each student has a distinct persona that can be developed, polished and refined. This is possible only with teamwork," Sapkal said.

Advising organizers to promote such events, the VC said those helped to build their personality. "Healthy competition leads you to learn things in a better way. Through such festivals, students get the chance to showcase their talents on a bigger platform."

He lauded NU students for delivering good results at state and national level. He acknowledged that the Yuvarang should have been conducted earlier but due to some problems it was delayed. "Yuvarang would be organized after just after Students' Council polls from next year as this time many students couldn't participate due to their practicals."

Principal Babanrao Taywade, in his speech said, through these festivals, NU was creating its identity. "It doesn't matter whether you win or lose in a competition. Your participation is most important," he said.

Folk and classical dances were performed on the last day of festival which evoked massive response from the audience. The entire venue was jam-packed by the participants from various colleges and their friends, perhaps for the first time since the start of the event. The participants were keen to know about their results and were seen cheering for those who won the prizes. Students of SB City College performed a cultural dance which fascinated the audience with their stunning performance bagged first prize.
