Mungantiwar slams Ajit Pawar for attack on media

State BJP president Sudhir Mungantiwar has flayed deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar for his remarks against the media. Pawar had recently warned the mediapersons that unless properly reported facts are published, they might face problems. He had also said that the media should be banned as it does not report facts properly.

Pawar had launched a tirade against the media a few days ago in Nanded when a television channel cameraman was trying to shoot a farmer, who was protesting against the government at a function attended by the DCM.

Mungantiwar told the media, "This is nothing but mafia raaj. BJP strongly condemns this attack on fourth estate, which is a vital pillar of democracy."

Deputy leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Gopinath Munde and leader of opposition in Maharashtra assembly Eknath Khadse have also slammed Pawar over his remarks.

Mungantiwar said that his party would launch 'Mumbai Chalo' campaign on March 14. "Party workers from all corners of Maharashtra will march towards Vidhan Bhavan to highlight the problems of the state. This is no longer the land of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, but of land mafia. This is no longer the land of Mahatma Phule, but education mafia," he said.

Meanwhile, BJP plans to cash in on the discontent among voters against the Congress-NCP regime in Maharashtra. "Even though price rise is more of central government's fault, people are angry at the two parties, which are in power at the centre. The Adarsh land scam and ouster of chief minister Ashok Chavan, CWG scam and 2G scam have tarnished the image of Congress. We will encash on these issues," a BJP leader said.

The party is also trying to take advantage of the factionalism within Congress following appointment of Prithviraj Chavan, whom many politicians perceive as an 'outsider'.
