Two die in separate hit-and-run cases

Two people died in separate hit-and-run mishaps on Friday night under the jurisdiction of Jaripatka police station. Ramesh Kuhikar was walking towards his residence at Ramai Nagar when a recklessly driven threewheeler knocked him dead on Kamptee road at 8.50 pm. In a separate accident, Kunal Ramteke (22), a resident of Lumbini Nagar in Mecosabagh died after a speeding sixseater auto hit his two-wheeler from the rear side.

The incident took place on the stretch between Mominpura and Kadbi Square at 9.20 pm. Ramteke, who had suffered serious injuries, was declared brought dead at Mayo hospital.

Alert cops nab three burglars Alert cops nabbed three burglars who were about to execute a robbery at a businessman's bungalow at Raj Nagar area in Sadar. The arrests were made during night patrolling on Thursday by the detection branch Sadar police headed by head constable Ramkaran Pandey and four constables -- Raju Sahoo, Raju Bhoyar, Ghanshyam Gaur and Arun Bakal.

Among the accused being arrested, Mangal Pillay (26), is a painter, Ashok Bhalavi (25) works as a security guard at Sadar and Dinesh Kaapgate (26) is jobless. Police said that Pillay has a record of robbery with assault while Kaapgate and Bhalavi were earlier booked for minor crimes. Pandey said while patrolling, they spotted three miscreants on two mopeds, seemed to be drunk from a distance.

Since they were discussing in low voice in front of Mehta's bungalow which remained locked for the past few days, we quizzed them," said Pandey. The miscreants failed to show documents of the vehicles. The police also found sharp weapons required to break open the door.
