PCR extended to April 11 in Monica case

Crime branch cops have been granted police custody remand of the four alleged assailants of Monica Kirnapure till April 11. The accused were produced before the magistrate's court on Thursday. The cops argued that one more culprit is yet to be netted, so custody is required.

The cops had managed to crack the case after the involvement of mastermind Kunal Jaiswal, now behind bars, came to fore. Shrikant Sonekar, a burglar, was the first one to be picked up by cops followed by Jaiswal, Pradeep Sahare and later Umesh Marathe for their alleged involvement in the murder. Raju, one of the youths named in the murder, is still absconding.

Monica, a third year engineering student, was murdered at Shree Nagar in Nandanvan on March 11. She was killed instead of another girl in a case of mistaken identity. Police also argued while pleading for PCR that they also need to recover more weapons from the assailants and their clothes.
