Rahman to enthrall Nagpur on May 15

Come May 15 and the Nagpurians will have a lifetime opportunity to witness Oscar and double Grammy award winner AR Rahman in a live concert. An NGO, Bodhi Foundation, is the organizer of what could perhaps be the music maestro's first show in India after winning the prestigious Oscars. He will perform in a live concert with his big troupe of over 100 artists and technicians.

"The event would be staged at Nagpur University's huge tract beside its guesthouse on Ambazari Road," said Bodhi Foundation secretary, Lalit Khobragade. The funds generated from the event would be donated to a women's empowerment project undertaken by the NGO at Katlabodi.

Khobragade stated that this will be perhaps biggest entertainment show in the city's history with as many as 60,000 viewers expected to witness the musician who made the country proud by winning many top music awards. The ticket rates for their two and half hours mega concert would begin from Rs 1,000 for a chair and ends at Rs 25,000 for the sofa for three persons. "We're also expecting crowd from neighbouring states like Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and also from nearby cities," Khobragade said.

Though he refused to divulge details as to how much was paid to the music legend who revolutionsied the Hindi music industry with a string of hits starting from Roja that shattered all box office records, the NGO secretary stated that Rahman would also bring in hi-tech equipment, music system and lights which is hallmark of all his shows.

He also disclosed that many renowned singers from Rahman's group would perform live on the stage. "The spot would be converted into a huge open air theatre to accommodate 60,000 people and also their vehicles. Currently, we're levelling the 20-acre land," he said.
