Only 67 per cent clear HSC general stream exam

Vadodara district continued with its dismal performance in HSC general stream with only 67.26 per cent students passing this year. Last year the district saw passing percentage of 74.77 per cent, which was three per cent less than 2009's passing percentage of 78.71. Of the 22,020 students who appeared for the HSC general stream exams, 14,673 passed out.

Only five students managed to bag A 1 grade and all of them are girls. Two eighty nine students got A 2 grade. The grading system left most of the students and parents confused. Many of them were seen calculating percentile system and trying to understand the grading system. Celebrations broke out in several schools as students congratulated each other for passing despite such low results.

The Pratapnagar centre saw highest passing percentage of 82.37, while Indrapuri centre saw lowest passing percentage 59.28. The Fatehgunj centre had impressive passing percentage of 73.53 and over 66 per cent passed from Sayajigunj centre. Atladara centre and Waghodia centre saw passing percentage of 60.63 and 59.50 respectively.

Chartered accountancy (CA) and company secretary (CS) are still the most preferred courses of HSC commerce students. "I am very happy with my results. I want to pursue CS in future and join some multi-national company," said Himani Bhatt, a student of Reliance School. Bhatt scored 91.71 per cent.

Another student Kyati Modi, who scored 92.13 per cent, said, "I have decided to pursue CS and I have already joined classes to prepare for the exams." Modi, a student of Maharani Girls High School, originally hails from Ankleshwar and had faced several hardships after she shifted to the city.
