Even though the SSC results dipped, the cut-offs at city colleges for science and commerce rose marginally. According to sources in the education department, admissions for science closed at 96.18% at Ambedkar College. This is higher than the cut-off of 94.40% at the same institute last year.

Sources added that admissions at Shivaji Science College closed at 93.46%, which is slightly lower than the 94.55% cut-off it achieved last year. Commerce faculty cut-off touched 89.20% at Ambedkar College, again slightly higher than last year's close of 87.09%.

The centralized admission committee (CAC) will be officially declaring the Std XI selection list for science and commerce faculty on Tuesday. The list will be available on the CAC web site (www.dydenagpur.org and www.cacstcxingp.org) from 8am. It will be displayed at every participating college from 11am.

There are apprehensions that had CBSE's school-evaluated students been given admission then the cutoffs could have probably risen to 97%. A senior faculty member at a top science college, said, "A girl from Centre Point School scored around 99% and there are many like her who did exceedingly well. But since they took the school-evaluated exam they are out of the reckoning for our colleges. I have no doubt that the cut-offs would have risen further if these 300-odd students were allowed in CAP."

Students are required to see which college they secured admission to and go directly to complete their admissions. There will be no centralized counselling process as it was for the bifocal faculty. Students should go to the respective colleges with all the necessary documents to avoid any inconvenience. Admissions will remain open till July 29 with a view to start the academic session by August second week.

There are 110 colleges in the city offering 7,140 seats through the centralized admission process (CAP) and almost a similar number through the management quota. For the commerce faculty there are 3,521 seats available through CAP and again a similar number is available through the management quota.

The city's top commerce college, GS College of Commerce had pulled out from CAP citing 'lack of quality students'.

Even though admissions will be done directly at the colleges, members of CAC would still be available at Dhanwate National College from 11am till 5pm. Students can contact CAC members if there are any queries or problems regarding admissions. A statement issued by CAC states that it will not entertain any complaints from students regarding colleges being far or that they did not mention a particular college in the form.
