UNIVERSITY NEWS :- NU extends admission deadline for third time

In some good news for the students, Nagpur University has again extended its last date of admission for all courses apparently to fill up huge number of vacant seats in majority of faculties. This is for the third time that deadline has been extended by the NU authorities after heavy demand by the majority of affiliated colleges where large number of seats remained unfulfilled, a senior official informed.

A notification issued by the NU registrar Mahesh Yenkie on September 13 and addressed to all colleges mentioned that the admission deadline has been stretched to September 29 with a view to benefit many students who still wish to take admission. It will be applicable for both annual and semester pattern faculties and subjects. But, the notification would not be applicable for courses where admissions were conducted under Centralized Admission Procedure (CAP).

Interestingly, the new notification comes with a rider that principals of the colleges admitting such students will have to submit an undertaking that their academic year comprising 180 days would be completed by them by conducting extra classes. Though Yenkie was not available for the comments, senior official added that on account of blind expansion of colleges in NU which crossed 800 mark, the colleges are finding it extremely difficult to get students. To add to the woes, increasing number of them are seeking refuge at Mumbai, Pune and other universities where ample job opportunities exist.

The official, however, raised concern over NU's move stating that since winter exams of annual pattern are commencing on October 15 and those of semester pattern to follow soon, the students will hardly get any time to complete the mandatory requirement of 180 days as per Maharashtra Universities Act, 1994. Additionally, the one-month Diwali vacations would also begin next month followed by the season of social and cultural events, which will make it even more difficult to complete the norm.

Already NU has received flak over its decision to permit students of 85 colleges (in 2006-07 and 2007-08 sessions), including engineering, to appear in the annual examinations despite the fact that they hardly attended college for even 90 days. These colleges in question admitted students after getting affiliation from NU as late as January 2007 and its students appeared in the summer examinations that began in March same year. Even a police complaint was filed alleging that NU bosses had violated provisions of law and granted bogus degrees to the students. Subsequently, a case was filed in Nagpur bench of Bombay high court which later moved to the Supreme Court.

MIHAN CARGO NEWS :- VSDB suggests courses to generate jobs for locals at Mihan

With a view to generate employment opportunities for the local people in the Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (Mihan), along with the special economic zone (SEZ), the Vidarbha Statutory Development Board (VSDB) has suggested 288 various educational courses to universities in Vidarbha. The VSDB recently held meetings with the authorities of Rashtra Sant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Amravati University, Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth (Agriculture University), state government's Department of Higher and Technical Education in this connection. Sources said that the vice chancellors of these universities have shown willingness to start 113 courses, including the IT, aviation and various engineering courses, from the ongoing academic year -- 2011-12. But, the courses are yet to take off as the Mihan officials could not provide a list of companies as demanded by the universities. "We asked them to provide information on companies, which are supposed to start their operations in Mihan, so that, we could start only those courses. However, despite repeated requests, we haven't received any communication from their side. There is no point in starting courses, which will have no future in the project," official sources from Nagpur University told PTI. He added that many of the courses including aviation, hotel management and mechanical engineering, are already there in various colleges in Nagpur. "About the rest of the courses, we are still awaiting response from the Mihan officials," he said (More) PTI JOE

RTM Nagpur University :- 106th anniversary of Vande Mataram celebrated‎

THE sky over Yashwant Stadium in Nagpur was filled with Vande Mataram recited by 60,000 students coming from 210 schools of the city on September 6, braving heavy showers and unfriendly weather. It was indeed an eye-catching event to be seen to be believed.

The programme was jointly organised by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), Maitree Parivar, and School Education Department to commemorate the 106th anniversary of Vande Mataram, the legendry song that inspired thousands of patriotic Indians to sacrifice their lives at the altar of Bharatmata during the freedom struggle. Vande Mataram again became a war cry of Anna Hazare’s ‘second freedom movement’ against corruption recently.

This is the seventh year for Maitree Parivar to take lead in organising this event in Nagpur involving school students in such a huge conclave.

Around 4000 students were standing on the dais in colourful attire of tricolour flag with Shabri Puranik dressed as Bharat Mata in the midst of them. Shrivallabh Fadanvis and Sarjerao Galpat posed as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Prakash Prabhalwar and VP Saxena were dressed in the attire of Mahatma Gandhi.

Addressing the students and others gathered at the Stadium Shri Nitin Gadkari, national president of Bharatiya Janata Party said that recitation of such patriotic songs always inspire the individual. Music and words of such songs help a person develop his or her personality. Vande Mataram is an inspirational and patriotic song. This should be recited daily in schools, he added.

Shri Gadkari congratulated NMC and Maitree Parivar for organising such a grand event in the history of Nagpur, which has emerged as a centre of social transformation in modern India.

Nagpur Mayor Archana Dehankar, MLAs Krishna Khopde, Vikas Kumbhare, RTM Nagpur University Vice-Chancellor Dr Vilas Sapkal, NMC Comissioner, president of Maitree Parivar Prof Sanjay Bhende, secertary Prof Pramod Pendke, and a number of officials and others were present to witness this historic event.

Earlier, after the inauguration, school teachers presented a number of patriotic songs under the guidance of Shyam Deshpande. Maitree Parivar presented awards to schools participating in Vandan Krantikariyon ko programme organised earlier. Band troupes from Prahar School and Gajanan Vidyalaya presented different patriotic tunes.

NAGPUR :- First ever bank CET marred by candidates' protest

The first ever common entrance test (CET) for some public sectors banks was held on Sunday, but was marred after over 100 candidates were refused entry to exam halls. Citing lack of mandatory documents, officials conducting the exam turned away students at various centres across Nagpur.

The CET was conducted by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) on behalf of 19 banks for the posts of probationary officers and management trainees.

A group of candidates who were appearing at a centre in Nandanvan lodged a police complaint over the issue. Vipin, a complainant, said, "We were denied entry by the officials saying that we did not have certain documents. We have been cheated and we are writing to the IBPS to conduct the exam again for us."

Candidates were required to bring their exam call letter, the original e-receipt/NEFT receipt and photo identity proof in original and a photocopy. The IBPS' website mentions that without all three documents the candidate will not be allowed entry into the exam hall.

Gaurav Kute, a candidate, said, "The IBPS did not inform us in advance about all this. The call letter had to be downloaded from the internet and it was only a couple of days ago that we were able to access it. I sat for hours at the internet cafe and tried but in vain. It is unfair that they are refusing us entry just because we had one document missing. We were ready to give a written undertaking but they were adamant on their stand."

Another candidate, Snehal Rahate, claimed all her documents were in order but was still denied entry. Her father, said, "They wanted a bank stamp on the e-receipt. But if it is an e-receipt how will it have a stamp on it? The entire thing was mismanaged and a waste of people's time."

The Bank of Maharashtra (BoM) office in Nagpur was the nodal organization to oversee the exams locally. When TOI visited the BoM office at Sitabuldi the concerned officer was not available. Some staff members were present to collect the answer papers from all centres but they refused to give the officer's number saying "he was out on duty visiting some centres".

However, invigilating officers at Dharampeth Girls High school told TOI that the candidates were at fault. "How come the other candidates have all documents in place? Candidates are not reading the instructions available on website properly and then they blame us. Some people have come late for which they were refused entry. But now they are claiming that we wrongly refused entry because of lack of documents," said an official.

AIEEE 2018 NEWS :- Nagpur goes online for AIEEE 2018

Students who wish to appear for the All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE) next year, in the city will not have the pen and paper option at all. Under the new reforms heralded by CBSE, there seems to be a push to move the entire exam online in the years to come.

To start off, the big ticket exam for 2018 will be conducted online in 22 cities across the country. These cities will not host the pen and paper option of the exam at all, but efforts have been made to have such centres in nearby cities.

In Maharashtra, Nagpur and Mumbai are the only two cities which will be conducting the exam online. The nearest offline centre from Nagpur is Amravati.

The online exams will be conducted daily from May 7-25 so that the students can choose any particular day according to their schedule. The papers each day will be of similar difficulty level and spreading the exam over a period of three weeks will also lessen the burden on infrastructure requirements.

The offline exam will be conducted just once on April 29.

To encourage participation in online exam, there are number of incentives being doled out to candidates. There will be discounts given up to Rs 350 in the exam fee, for those opting to take the test online. Also a mock software will be uploaded on the CBSE website in December this year so that students can get the feel of it.

Another change is the way examination forms are to be processed. From 2012, no physical forms will be sold anywhere in the country. The forms will have to be submitted online only and payment can be made through credit/debit card or a demand draft. This will enable students to submit their forms online 24/7 from home or an Internet cafe. The students can also visit a specially designated submission centre in their cities.
While coaching class owners welcome the move, they do feel that the pen and paper option should have been there as well. Abhishek Bansal, who runs a coaching centre in the city, said, "There are many students who are still not comfortable with computers. Some are from rural areas so there is a natural apprehension and even the computer savvy ones fear that technical glitches might harm their chances. So an offline option should have been there."
However, some feel that if implemented properly it should not be a problem.
Chandrakant Satija, regional head of a coaching centre, said, "Since the exams are being conducted daily, students will benefit due to the flexible schedule plus the technical glitches can also be sorted out. Same thing happened with CAT but it all worked out in the end."
CBSE is also designating certain cities as online-only centres so that students go for that option. In the exam held in 2011 less than 1% of the approximately 11 lakh candidates, across the country, took the online test.

HIGHLIGHTS:-

For first time ever AIEEE introduces online-only exam centres in 22 cities, including Nagpur

In Nagpur the exam will be conduced only online, Amravati is the nearest offline exam centre

Exam forms can be submitted only online

Online exam will be conducted daily for three weeks, student can choose any one to suit schedule

Mihan PAPs to get Rs 1.25cr: Chavan

The deadlock over rehabilitation of Mihan project-affected persons (PAPs) may end soon. Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Friday announced to increase the compensation from Rs 87.50 lakh per hectare to Rs 1.25 crore per hectare for Mihan PAPs.

The second runway will require almost 150 hectares of Shivangaon, Bhamti and Jaitala villages. The residents had been demanding higher compensation in lieu of their land from Maharashtra Airport Development Company - the agency in-charge of developing Mihan. The CM's announcement raised hopes for the proposed second runway of Mihan to finally take off.

Chavan had earlier directed Nagpur district administration to complete the rehabilitation process at the earliest to facilitate the much-needed second runway that's not just important for Mihan project but Nagpur as well. A key land swap deal with the Indian Air Force, which has a base in the area, is also crucial for laying the second runway and the issue will soon be sorted out. So far 3,000 hectares have been acquired for Mihan.

After a series of meetings held with PAPs and local people's representatives recently it was decided that compensation amount be increased to Rs 1.25 crore per hectare. Almost 90% people have given clearance to the proposal.

Chavan admitted that the economic slowdown delayed the project. "Five major issues came in the way of Mihan project -- Shivangaon village rehabilitation, power transmission line for SEZ, jhudpi-jungle in the airport area, land swap with the defence ministry and the dispute over land ownership between defence ministry and the Airports Authority of India," he said.

The idea is to develop Mihan-SEZ as per the concept conceived in 2003. "We want a credible and visible progress like launching the second runway plan. Investments will be sought through road shows," said Chavan. He also put to rest speculations that Boeing was not interested in setting up an MRO base here. "They made a commitment as part of the deal with the aviation ministry. I am sure it will be honoured," the CM said.

The CM also proposed a package for those land owners whose lands were acquired earlier. They will be offered Rs 65.3 lakh per hectare for 12.5% of the total land acquired. "The offer may help in satisfying the oustees whose land has been already acquired at a relatively lower rate," Chavan said.

However, Baba Dawre, leader of Shivangaon oustees said the residents of Shivangaon, Bhamti-Jaitala villages who have been offered a compensation of Rs 87.5 lakh per hectare were demanding up to Rs 2 crore per hectare. Now, Chavan has announced Rs 1.25 crore per hectare which comes to Rs 50 lakh per acre, which he may consider to increase during the next round of negotiations, Dawre said.

NAGPUR :- Finally, NU students' council polls from Sept 29

In a major respite to university students, the Maharashtra government has finally lifted the ban on students' council elections across the state. This has brought cheer among thousands of youth leaders. Accordingly, the Nagpur University (NU) administration has already finalized the poll schedule.

Director of social welfare Arun Patil informed that the procedure for formation of the council would kick-start from September 29 in over 800 NU colleges. On October 4, the respective Students' Council secretaries will be selected through unanimous voting procedures. Patil will later decide the dates for the selection of president of the council body. The government had made announcement regarding ban on students' council elections in February.

With this comeback of the polls, each section of colleges affiliated to the university will select their respective class representatives (CRs). The second important phase of selection of university representatives (URs) will be conducted in the subsequent days in individual colleges. The URs will be selected from CRs by principals and teachers of the respective colleges. Colleges falling under university jurisdiction across six districts are eligible to participate in the process. Among all colleges, 15 institutes will be selected for final polls by the university officials. Candidates are elected annually on the basis of their academic performance. The other details about this provision and its functions are available on www.nagpuruniversity.org.

NAGPUR UNIVERSITY :- Gondwana finally gets a VC

After a delay of over nine months, the Maharashtra government has finally named a vice chancellor for the Gondwana University (GU) that's to come up at Gadchiroli. Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan announced the name of Vijay Aanchwar for the top job of Maharashtra's newest university here on Friday.

While the official notification is expected on Saturday, the CM did not mention when the decision to appoint Aanchwar as VC was taken. Aanchwar himself learnt about his appointment only after receiving phone calls from the media. TOI learns that Nagpur University's senior official Arvind Chaudhary, former YCMOU pro-VC Pandit Palande and North Maharashtra University VC Sudhir Meshram were the other contenders.

Aanchwar, the 62-year-old former principal of Sardar Patel College in Chandrapur, said, "I will be going to Nagpur University's sub-centre at Gadchiroli in a couple of days. I am still unaware of other details. I will be talking to the government officials on various issues from next week," he said.

Hailing from the nondescript Bangaram Talodhi village in Gondpipri town of Chandrapur district, Aanchwar has an impressive academic background. He is also a gold medallist in MCom. Aanchwar had completed his PhD in working of 'Gramin Banks' and was member of NU"s Academic Council, Senate and Board of Studies. Interestingly, Aanchwar is also chairman of the Kanyaka Nagri Cooperative Bank in Chandrapur.

Aanchwar aims to expedite the process of constitution of various statutory bodies like the academic, management councils and senate. "In the next seven to eight months, I will give priority to this work and then the academic year could be started from June," Aanchwar told TOI from Ramgiri, the CM's official residence in the city.

The GU will be carved out by bifurcating the 88-year-old Nagpur University which is already overseeing over 800 colleges. This will be the second bifurcation for the parent university since it was established. Earlier, Amravati University was formed in 1983.

Gondwana will be newest university in Maharashtra after Solapur University was created in 2004. The GU is expected to usher in a new era in the backward and Naxal-infested district of Gadchiroli.

Owing to the delay of naming a VC nearly a year after the ordinance was promulgated, the GU will have to wait till June next year to become operational. It will then have 163 colleges from Chandrapur and Gadchiroli under its umbrella.

Until then, NU will continue to remain saddled with the additional burden. TOI had been repeatedly highlighting this issue of the delay in naming the GU VC.

As reported by TOI earlier, the delay in the appointment of GU VC was due to a tug of war between the two ruling partners - Congress and NCP. As home minister RR Patil is also guardian minister for Gadchiroli, the NCP bigwigs wanted their man for the top post.

Chavan had reportedly given an assurance to a delegation of tribals leaders in Mumbai that the new VC would be selected from among the tribal community.

State BJP president Sudhir Mungatiwar who first mooted the concept of GU hailed the decision but was critical of the delay. "While the NCP wanted Chaudhary as VC, the Congress wanted Aanchwar," he alleged.

9,405 vacant BEd seats in state, 1,100 in colleges under UoP

As many as 9,405 Bachelor of Education (BEd) seats will lie vacant across the state this year, much in line with the trend for the past few years. The maximum number of vacant seats — around 4,473 — will be in the 114 BEd colleges in Nagpur, but the colleges under University of Pune will also see around 1,100 vacant seats — an increase of 176 seats from last year. Besides, around 770 seats will be vacant in the MEd colleges.

About 10,500 BEd seats were vacant across the state in 2010, of which 1,308 were in Pune. The figures were 3,500 and 3,000 in 2009 and 2008.

While officials at the Directorate of Higher Education attribute this to the new colleges, principals feel there should be more English medium colleges. The government admission procedure is followed in 381 of the total 588 BEd colleges in the state while the admission to the other colleges is done on basis of a common entrance test conducted by their association, the results of which are yet to be published. Senior official and course coordinator Dr Sharad Nikalje said there is a demand for BEd. “This year, as many as 53,958 candidates appeared for the exam. The reason why so many seats are lying vacant is the huge increase in number of BEd colleges. Students prefer not to take admissions because they are not getting admission to colleges of their preference.”

Bhushan Patil, principal, HGM Azam College of Education, said the National Council for Teacher Education authorises new colleges. “There is a spurt in BEd colleges across the state in the past few years. Many of these are owned by politicians, who do not face any problem in starting them. Besides, due to more private colleges coming up in almost every area, students prefer to join a college near their residence.” Nadini Patil, principal, Tilak College of Education, said more English medium colleges were the need of the hour. “Over the years, we have seen that the demand for English medium colleges are increasing; there are only a few colleges offering the course in English. That is another reason for students to opt out of the course.”

There are 351 Marathi medium BEd colleges in the state as against 38 English medium colleges.

MUHS disaffiliates Nagpur College of Homoeopathy

MUHS disaffiliates Nagpur College of Homoeopathy
The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences on Wednesday disaffiliated Nagpur College of Homoeopathy on account of several complaints against it. The academic council of Nashik-based university decided this in its meeting presided over by vice-chancellor Dr Arun Jamkar, sources said.

Jamkar told TOI that they had taken a decision to disaffiliate about 15 colleges whose staff strength is under 60% since many years. However, he declined to confirm that Nagpur College of Homoeopathy was among them. "It's difficult to remember names," he said before directing the enquiries towards registrar Dr Adinath Suryakar. Suryakar did not take the calls. University PRO Swapnil Torney informed that MUHS had started taking stringent action against erring colleges. Only last month they had disaffiliated 70 institutes, he said but he too failed to confirm Nagpur College of Homoeopathy's name.

Sources however stated that the step was taken after several complaints received by MUHS against the college management led by Ghanshayamdas Panpalia. It includes serious ones like corruption, misdeeds and even sexual exploitation. TOI had many times highlighted irregularities in the said college. Even a court case was filed against the management for irregularities. MUHS had issued a notice to the college management in June. The action came after the college failed to respond satisfactorily and also failed to fill up vacant posts.

NAGPUR Roster scam:- NU withdraws notices to 6 lecturers, FAO

Even as Gandhian Anna Hazare's anti-corruption crusade received huge support from the public, corrupt acts continue. The Nagpur University (NU) is no different.

agitation against the corruption created huge awareness among the masses to stay away from give and take of bribe, those serving in the Nagpur University think otherwise. They will first indulge in illegal acts and then will go to any extent to escape punishment, thanks to the blessings of their political bosses.

The NU officials, on Wednesday, apparently buckling under the political pressure withdrew notices issued to PN Khobragade, PM Tumane, VK Jambhulkar, DD Barasgade, Kalpana Nagle and A Dongre along with finance and accounts officer (FAO) Puran Meshram after receiving GAD's letter. These lecturers and FAO were served notices for their alleged involvement in the roster scam.

TOI, on Saturday, had reported about how politicians were mounting pressure on NU bosses to ensure charges against those involved in the scam were dropped. The newspaper had also disclosed that a couple of ministers, including one from the city, had personally called on the NU top brass to "protect" these seven individuals. Six of them were illegally recruited in blatant violation of norms prescribed under the roster. The politicians were even making attempts on their level to get these names deleted from inquiry panel reports prepared by the state general administration department (GAD). In fact, the NU has already dispatched a letter to GAD to reinstate these six teachers. as they were appointed long back after following normal procedures.

Insiders informed that the politicians were successful in their efforts as GAD dropped the charges against these teachers. NU, on September 7, received a letter from the GAD giving its consent to continue with the said six lecturers. This act has now legalized the illegal recruitment.

NU PRO Sanjay Bahekar refused to comment feigning ignorance. But a senior official, on condition of anonymity, confirmed that NU had withdrawn the notices issued to the six lecturers and the FAO.

Ironically, the notices were served to the lecturers only after legislative inquiry panel, led by Gadchiroli MLA Anand Gedam, passed strictures on the NU vice chancellor Vilas Sapkal for his failure to take action against the culprits. The panel had set a week's deadline to act on various enquiry reports. However, now Wednesday's action has completely defeated the purpose of the panel's recommendations.

TOI had first exposed the scam on March 19, 2009 reporting as to how NU failed to verify its roster that was full of illegal appointments. The newspaper followed it up by publishing a confidential report of state GAD which revealed some shocking facts and passed strictures on the NU bosses for not making appointments as per the roster. The report, drafted by ex-principal secretary PS Meena, mentioned that the appointments of 12 NU teachers was completely illegal and directed the NU bosses to immediately remove them.

NAGPUR UNIVERSITY Opposition to Sapkal's proposal

Nagpur varsity VC Vilas Sapkal's plan to implement the grading and choice-based credit system (CBCS) at the undergraduate level is reportedly facing stiff opposition from principals and teachers of many colleges. Sources told TOI that they feel conducting two examinations in a year is not "feasible".

Sapkal was keen that the CBCS system, which has to be implemented at the post graduation level from 2012-13, be implemented at the UG level too so that all stakeholders get used to it. The joint board of vice chancellors (JBVC) had taken a unanimous decision during the recent meeting in Pune to adopt the CBCS and grading system for PGs from the coming academic year.

At present, the semester pattern is only for professional courses like engineering and law at the UG level. Sapkal wanted to implement the CBCS across all courses in NU as recommended by the UGC. Without the semester system, the CBCS, which emphasized on continuous evaluation, wouldn't be a reality. The system is prevalent in renowned global universities all over the world.

Many principals and teachers feel that the city lacks sufficient evaluators and infrastructure to conduct exams twice in a year. The large numbers of students pursuing general courses like BA, BCom and BSc also makes it an "unreasonable" affair.

"It would also burn a big hole in NU's pocket," varsity sources said. "Moreover, absorption scheme would have to be devised along with number of attempts for the failure students."

Even now, when exams are held once a year, results are declared much after the 45-day norm set by the Maharashtra University Act. Revaluation results are further delayed.

Despite all these negative points, Ambedkar College principal K Malti Reddy was in favour of the semester system in UG. "It's a change that will benefit the students and it might take a year or two for changes to be accommodated," she said.

Dhanwate National College principal Baban Taywade said a quicker evaluation by evaluators was expected if semester system was to be implemented. Senate member Bharat Meghe said colleges must shoulder some responsibility considering the shortage of evaluators.

NAGPUR UNIVERSITY :- NU serves notice to 6 lecturers, FAO for illegal appointments

NU serves notice to 6 lecturers, FAO for illegal appointments
After initially denying the roster scam that shook the Nagpur University and stalled all its appointments, the bosses finally issued notices to six lecturers who were illegally appointed and were thus part of the scam. As if it is not enough, a notice was also served to NU finance and accounts officer (FAO) Puran Meshram who was heading the NU Backward Class (BC) cell, as deputy registrar, when the modus operandi was at its peak to illegally recruit persons on important posts by tampering the roster, a senior NU official confirmed.

The show cause notices asked them as to why they shouldn't be removed from the posts for occupying them illegally. They had been asked to file a reply within two weeks. Over 500 NU appointments including those of heads of departments, deans, teachers and assistant registrars made after 2004 would stand cancelled if the roster was properly implemented, the official revealed. The scam had already cost the state exchequer crores of rupees in salary payments.

TOI had first exposed the scam on March 19, 2009 reporting how NU failed to verify its roster that was full of illegal appointments. TOI also published the confidential report of state general administration department (GAD) which revealed some shocking facts and passed strictures on the NU bosses for not making appointments as per the roster.

The report drafted by ex-principal secretary PS Meena mentioned that the appointments of 12 NU teachers including PN Khobragade, PM Tumane, VK Jambhulkar and DD Barasgade were completely illegal and directed the NU bosses to immediately remove them. These four from NU's archaeology, microbiology, political science and zoology departments respectively were among the ones who got notices from NU. Along with them, Kalpana Nagle from geology and A Dongre from chemistry departments were also served notices.

Though Meshram refused to comment on the issue despite repeated attempts, controller of examinations (CoE) looking after additional charge of registrar feigned ignorance about any such development.

Ironically, this much-delayed action came after the legislative enquiry panel led by Gadchiroli MLA Anand Gedam gave an ultimatum to vice-chancellor Vilas Sapkal and registrar Mahesh Yenkie to act on the Meena report which clearly asked the NU bosses to replace these teachers with right candidates. The panel was on a two-day visit to the NU and other institutions for seeking details in the appointments, promotions, reservations, scholarships, admissions of SC, NT and VJ candidates. The members slammed NU bosses for not correcting the roster which has severe irregularities and directed them to do so within a month and submit a report. They also asked NU bosses to initiate action against the guilty within a week.

Even Justice (Retd) GG Loney panel constituted by former VC SN Pathan for probing irregularities had indicted many NU officials for their involvement in the scam and asked NU bosses to immediately lodge a police complaint. But, NU appointed another panel of deputy registrar with North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon, RJ Valvi to verify recommendations of the Loney panel. However, though the panel endorsed the retired judge's stand, surprisingly, the NU administration failed to take any action on either Meena, Loney or Valvi reports which were submitted to the VC long back.

The notices proved beyond doubt that the roster scam happened in NU which the bosses were declining. If these posts were still continued then it will be a grave injustice to other candidates whose appointments were decided as per the roster on rotation basis. NU is expected to even lodge a FIR after reply filed by six teachers and Meshram, the official said.
