NMC to tax hospitals to fill up coffers

OPDs, private hospitals and trust-run hospitals will have to pay enhanced registration charges ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 20,000,

depending on the classification of hospitals, if the Nagpur Municipal Corporation standing committee meeting, slated on December 17, approves the proposal. This and a few other proposals have been put up before the standing panel for approval.

A senior NMC official informed, "Till now the Nagpur Municipal Corporation had been charging a uniform Rs 100 as annual registration fee from hospitals having five beds or 200 beds under the Bombay Hospital Registration Act. However, now the NMC health advisory committee had classified these hospitals in nine categories and registration fee for each category has been fixed as per beds.

There are about 650 registered hospitals in the city and the enhanced registration charges is expected to bring additional income to the NMC.

The civic body has decided to give 50% concession in registration fees for hospitals that will reserve 5% beds for the poor and provide them free treatment.

The committee will also discuss the proposal for providing NMC-owned land on rent for night parking of Star Buses at six different destination on a temporary basis. The star bus operator Vansh Nimay Infra Projects has demanded land at Civil Lines, behind Vidhan Bhavan, NMC workshop at Great Nag Road, Patwardhan Ground, near Hingna, Khapri and Wadi octroi posts.

The other proposals on the agenda are e-payment gate way for property tax recovery and hoardings advertising rights to private company.
