Over 33k Std XI forms sold against 32k seats

The competition for Standard XI admission might get stiffer if number of forms sold is any indication. Against 32,000 junior college seats in the city in science and commerce streams, 33,147 forms were sold from 32 forms distribution centres by Wednesday, the last day of sale.

The aspirants have until Thursday to submit applications. Block education officer SR Kukde, who is looking after admissions, said 613 forms were sold on last day against 23,000. With this the first phase of admission process which began on July 16 will had ended.

The final merit list for bifocal courses will be out on July 28 on department websites and at New English and Sindhi Hindi high schools along with Dr Ambedkar, Mohota Science and Dhanwate National colleges. The spot admission process for bi-focal courses will begin from July 29 and go on up to August 8 at DNC.

The city currently has nearly 17,000 science and 15,000 commerce seats in 150 odd colleges participating in centralised admission process (CAP) conducted by the education department. The number of students might exceed the seats available as per present estimates. But officials are not worried as deputy director of education has the powers to grant extra sections in existing colleges if the need arises.

Junior colleges attached to schools have 20% quota for own students and they were supposed to fill up these seats by Wednesday. Similarly, schools run by minority institutions also have 50% quota for own students in their junior colleges. These were also supposed to be filled up by Wednesday. All these colleges can fill 5% seats from management quota.
