Dixit's touching gesture for 92-year-old woman

On the day when he received numerous calls and a stream of visitors at his Civil Lines office, the outgoing city police chief Praveen Dixit made it a point to visit a unique well-wisher at her RMS colony residence on Tuesday.

She is a 92-year-old Jankidevi Sharma who wanted to bid Dixit adieu before the gentleman IPS officer hands over charge.

"Your security is our concern," said Dixit, at his courteous best, to the Jankidevi while leaving her home. She too lifted her frail hands making a strong plea to the Almighty for well-being of the officer.

The family members of nonagenarian were rendered speechless by the emotional visit. The woman seemed to have called on Dixit on an earlier occasion. She was eager to meet Dixit before he left for his new assignment in Mumbai.

The police chief did not disappoint the senior citizen. Sharing a few moments at Jankidevi home, Dixit's concern for her security and well-being was touching. He tried to gather from the woman's son how the house was protected. He expressed satisfaction on learning that the family had adequate security gadgets installed. Both Dixit and his well-wisher showed a special fondness for each other in those fleeting moments.

While asking the top cop to share some snacks in the drawing room, the woman stood up holding soft drink glass in her hand. As she was unable to continue walking. Dixit held her hands and took the glass in his hands. Later, the woman drove away a fly hovering near Dixit's forehead as he took some sweets.

Finally, Dixit was offered a bouquet which he graciously handed over to a family member saying it would look nicer at their home. Emotions, however, flowed unchecked back at his office's visitor room.

A woman, who sobbed profusely, repeatedly sought his blessing for trying once again in the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC). "Sir, I failed by just 20 marks," she said requesting Dixit to allow her to meet him in Mumbai. A driver, who came with a complaint, was immediately attended to by Dixit who instructed traffic cops from MIDC to help the man.
