nagpur :-Let us plead our case: Naxals to HC

Two alleged Naxalites lodged in the Nagpur Central Jail have written a letter to the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court requesting permission to plead their own case.

The Naxals, Shridhar Shrinivasan and Vernon Gonsalves alias Mohammed Afzal Khan, have rejected the appointment of lawyer RR Shrivastav to plead on their behalf. This appointment was made by the high court.

A division bench on Tuesday asked assistant government pleader Tehsin Mirza to take instructions in this regard from the Maharashtra government.

He was told to file a reply on the Naxals’ demand before September 1.

Both the Naxals had been arrested on November 9 last year and are behind bars since then for offences committed by them.
