Infighting led to splinter groups in Simi

The sleepy town of Hinganghat near the city is becoming an easy recruiting ground for fundamentalist organisations like the Simi.

Several old-timers of Simi already have many disciples actively propagating their teachers' ideology.

"Some teachers at certain institutions are engaged in spreading anti-government sentiments which make youths act against the peaceful society," said an officer.

Security agencies are livid with the fact that certain pockets in Hinganghat have become meeting points of former Simi members or their prepared cadres.

Sources pointed out that several splinter groups of Simi and ex-Simi members had floated separate outfits under different banners. These have helped the groups to dodge vigilance. They have same agenda but skip the radar of intelligence agencies.

"Their infightings also led to some splinter groups," said the officer.

Sources pointed out that among the splinter groups, the faction headed by Safdar Nagori was the most dangerous one. It was once believed that a section of underground hardliners in Hinganghat were followers of Nagori who was arrested in 2008. Security agencies have tried to net a couple of other operatives from the faction holed up in Hinghanghat but were unable to net them.

SM Waghmare, superintendent of police for Wardha, admitted working on the inputs he had received from the security agencies. "This is a serious issue and we are taking necessary precaution," said Waghmare without commenting any further.
