nagpur :- Ex-minister Mulak no more

Former minister of state for urban development Bhausaheb Mulak passed away on Sunday afternoon due to cardiac arrest. The 71-year-old Congressman was the father of MLC Rajendra Mulak.

Mulak started his political career with Congress Seva Dal. He then joined Youth Congress and became the president of Nagpur city unit in 1965. Later, he was appointed as president of Congress's Nagpur district unit. He was elected as corporator in 1969. He became the mayor of Nagpur in 1972. He was again victorious in 1975 civic elections.

Mulak was elected as an MLA from West Nagpur constituency in 1978. However, he soon developed differences with the then chief minister Sharad Pawar, resigned and went back to Indira Congress. In 1980, he successfully contested from Umred on Indira Congress ticket.

Mulak was also the ex-commandant of Nagpur district home guard and ex-organising secretary of Bharat Sevak Samaj.

The Congressman had founded Backward Class Youth Education Society in 1974 and started several educational institutes under its aegis. KDK Engineering College, one of the oldest private engineering colleges in the city, is run by this society.

Mulak was admitted to a private hospital on October 20 following severe pain in abdomen. He suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday morning and passed away around 12.15pm. The funeral was held at KDK college in the evening.
