Amravati cops arrest two touts active in Nagpur RTO office

Amravati police have arrested two agents or touts active in Nagpur RTO office. The two agents were allegedly involved in preparing forged documents of stolen vehicles.

A special squad of Amravati police led by senior police inspector Balasaheb Kadam arrested Umesh Dahikar and Akash Jain from Nagpur on Thursday. Amravati police commissioner Amitesh Kumar told TOI that both Dahikar and Jain helped to get registration numbers for stolen trucks from Nagpur RTO office.

In fact, two RTO officials Shriram Parse and Pradip Lehgaonkar were instrumental in preparing the registration documents on the basis of fake and forged papers submitted by the gang involved in stealing vehicles, police said.

Kadam said that the duo had been at large since last one month and their names had come to fore after a resident of Nagpuri Gate, Raza Ahmed Mohammed Yusuf, lodged a complaint that his truck parked outside his house had been stolen. During investigation, the police arrested one Mohammed Shakil Khan Sharif Khan from Kamptee. Khan spilled the beans and confessed to having committed the crime with the help of two RTO agents, Dahikar and Jain. He had also revealed the names of RTO staffers Lehgaonkar and Parse. On the basis of his confessional statement, the Amravati police had also arrested Lehgaonkar and Parse. But Dahikar and Jain had managed to give the cops a slip.

Police sources said Jain and Dahikar were very close to Lehgaonkar and this helped Khan to prepare original documents by submitting forged papers. With total non-cooperation from RTO Nagpur office, the Amravati police had failed to get custody of both Lehgaonkar and Parse. Ironically, RTO Vijay Lande had also failed to produce related documents issued to stolen trucks. However, with the arrest of Dahikar and Jain, the Amravati police are expected to make a breakthrough in the matter.

Meanwhile, on Friday, the police produced Dahikar and Jain in court, which remanded them to police custody till April 10.
