Nagpur comes out in support of Hazare

Anna Hazare's battle for the passage of the Jan Lokpal Bill has been grabbing headlines in every newspaper and channel since the past couple of days. Nagpur too is not lagging behind in supporting this movement. Most of Hazare's supporters believe they are part of a wave that will make history again, almost like the independence struggle spearheaded by Mahatma Gandhi.

With anti-corruption fervour rising among youths, there is an urgency in the movement to ensure the flame does not die out. Twitterland and Facebook are full of supporters making observations on the drive.

Students of various colleges in the city have decided to come together for candle light marches to voice their opinions and concern over the grave problem and show solidarity and support to Hazare.

Nancy Sinha, a student, who is organizing candlelight marches in the city, said, "I just saw what was going on in other cities. I set up a Facebook event two days back and went to colleges giving away flyers and making people aware about the bill. The event page is called 'Candle Light Protest, Pass the Jan Lokpal Bill' and I hope it brings youths together to talk about the bill and have discussions."

The marches have been arranged on April 9 and 10 at RBI square and Futala Lake respectively at 5:30pm.

Nikita Ramteke, a student of LAD college, said, "We are expecting at least 300 students to show up. We will have pamphlets and slogan boards along with discussions to make the youth aware of the bill and its advantages."

The organization 'India Against Corruption' has arranged a dharna at RBI square. There will also be a prayer meeting at RBI Square everyday from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.

Rajiv Jagtap, general secretary of Janmanch Board of the city, said, "There are about 26 organizations in the city that support India Against Corruption. Its members have come together for discussions and to show support for Anna."

The members of the District Bar Association of the city too have called for an extraordinary general body meeting to discuss Anna's hunger strike and support his agitation and movement against corruption. The application has been signed by 76 of the city's senior lawyers.

Indian Medical Association's Nagpur branch has also declared its support to struggle by Hazare. It has urged its members to send letters or make a phone call to phone number 022-61550789 in support of Anna.
