Support continues to pour out for Anna

With Anna Hazare remaining firm in his fight against corruption, the movement continued to spread like a virus throughout the country on Friday. Even as the government agreed to some of the demands regarding the Jan Lokpak bill, and several biggies joined the protests all over the country, the number of supporters in the city was constantly increasing.

"There will be no end to protests till the government does not do something substantial. The changes that they have proposed are not enough and till Anna is not satisfied, we will not quit," said Anamika Agarwal, a student protester at the candle march at RBI Square.

The rally at RBI square saw a mix of students, professionals, businessmen attending the protest. "I have come here to voice my concern over the deteriorating health of our country, to which the only cure is this bill," said Dr Alka P.

Members of the Nagpur Chamber of Commerce, along with Jan Manch, Yuva Sangathna and other organizations are supporting this "revolution". The Yuva Sangathna played the nagada all day long at the RBI square to 'wake' the sleeping population and ministers.

Aditya Thakre said, "These politicians deserve to be reminded that their place is always below the citizens. I need to know where my hard earned money is going; I definitely don't want it to go into their bank accounts."

The spirit at the RBI rally was almost like a rally for the independence of the country. There were recitations of verses written during independence, bhajans were sung and people shouted slogans against corruption. Aatish, a 12 year-old, joined his parents for the protest claiming he was doing it for his "future," and out of his "responsibility towards the country."

There was also a signature campaign at the Joggers' Street in Civil Lines by the Eastern Studies Society. Vani Iyer, an engineering student said, "I have seen my friends pay for their admissions and I know that if this does not stop, the quality of professionals will diminish, just as the standard of humanity has gone down. I cannot sit back and think about selfish needs anymore."

Social worker Umesh Chaubey and chairman of Education Culture Society Forum Govind Verma said they are leaving for Delhi to join Anna and experience the action first hand.

Some other associations that are supporting Anna are the National Organisation of Insurance Workers, Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh, Bolshevik Party of India, Government AyurvedCollege, Sakkardara and more.

Many more protests have been organized over the weekend and the number of supporters is expected to increase every day.
