Tough contest in DBA polls today

The Nagpur District Bar Association (DBA) would be conducting polls for selecting its executive body on Friday. The elections will be from 10am to 5pm. The counting would take place the same day from 5.30pm onwards and results will also be announced by late evening. Around 42 candidates are in the fray for 17 executive posts.

The 135-year-old body is going for its much-awaited polls as the two-year term of Dipak Kolhe-led body comes to an end. A 10-member panel has been constituted for smooth conduct of the polls. DBA has over 4,000 members and a tough fight is speculated between various groups. On Thursday, the contestants were seen meeting their colleagues while appealing to them to vote in their favour.

The candidates for the post of president are - Ravi Bhoyar, Jagdish Gaidhane and Sudeep Jaiswal. Abhay Jikar, Ram Anwane and Manoj Sable are competing for the post of general secretary. Kamal Satuja, Vilas Raut, RP Thote, Pramod Upadhyay and Kailash Vyas are vying for the two posts of vice-president. Aruna Balpande, Archana Ramteke and Sunil Dawda are standing for the post of treasurer. For the post of library in-charge, the contenders are BV Chawhan, Sandeep Dongre, Shreesh Ingle and IH Qazi. The contenders for the two posts of joint secretary are SN Abhyankar, PK Bezelwar, Deepak Gadewar, Arpana Kabra, Anant Neware, Mahesh Raut, Prashant Sakhare and Anil Sanwal.

The voting will be held at the second floor, district court premises. The arrangement of voters has been decided. The candidates with surname beginning with letters 'A' to 'K' are in first booth and have been allotted room 214. Those with surname from 'L' to 'R' are in second booth and those with 'S' to 'Z' in third and have been given Room 224 and 201 respectively. The total number of voters is 3,035. This is because a section of members are ineligible for various reasons. They are instructed to get a voting identity card. Use of mobile phones in booths has been strictly prohibited.
