A fifth of Nagpur University appointments are illegal?

At least 20% of the appointments in Nagpur University had not been made

as per rules, revealed sources from government’s general
administration department
(GAD).

This shocking fact was disclosed by the GAD sources when the university officials contacted them in Mumbai. The university officials were asked by the GAD to come with required documents which were not presented to the latter when they had come for inspection of roster last month.

When contacted, an upper secretary of the GAD confirmed to TOI that discrepancies were found in the university’s roster since 1997 and therefore they asked the authorities to come up with all the required documents. “Irregularities were also witnessed in appointments of Class I officers like assistant registrars. After screening of the roster, the illegally filled up posts will automatically get cancelled,” the GAD official said.

TOI in its March 19 edition had had reported how the Nagpur University had failed to get its roster verified by the government and how that was full of illegal appointments for over four years. This was following a letter from divisional commissioner dated July 7, 2004, that went missing under mysterious circumstances.

Following many complaints, the government directed all 19 universities of the state to get their rosters verified by the assistant commissioner of GAD.
