After JEE, Anay tops AIEEE from city

Anay Joshi did it again. Anay, who had topped IIT-JEE from the city, bagged top position from the city in the eighth All India Engineering/
Architecture Entrance Examination (AIEEE) conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

This Dharampeth Science College lad had 41st rank in Maharashtra and 364 All India Rank (AIR) in the AIEEE, the results of which were announced on Saturday.

Another city lad Pallav Dhobley emerged topper in SC category in the state (and bagged ninth rank at all India level in). This Shivaji Science College student however was ranked 96th in state and 1140 AIR in the general category. Pallav was sixth topper in JEE examination in SC category in state.

Faridabad boy Nitin Jain who topped IIT-JEE exam six days ago also topped the AIEEE exam. Nitin became the second student to accomplish this feat after Piyush Srivastav who had also topped both the exams in 2005. Nitin scored 417 out of a total 432 to top the list of aspirants who would receive calls for counselling to various engineering and architecture colleges across the country.

Makarand Mahalley emerged second topper in city with 52nd rank in state and 509 AIR from the general category. However, this Hislop College student is second topper from Maharashtra in Other Backward Class (OBC) category and 60th on national level.

Sushrut Hewalkar is 11th in state OBC category. Akhilesh Parte is fourth in the state in ST category.
Palak Bhushan of Bhavan’s BP Vidya Mandir secured 67th rank in state and 736 AIR to be among top five in the city.

Sanditi Khandelwal was the topper among girls with 138th state rank and 1612 AIR. In architecture, Prutha Chiddarwar was ranked seventh rank in the state. Aditi Pohekar notched fifth position in Maharashtra in SC category.

Nisha Kothari, director of a leading coaching institute, attributed success to hardwork of students and the teachers’ perseverance.

Sarang Upganlawar, director of another renowned institute says, “The trend among students to appear for IIT/AIEEE is definitely on upper side and since last couple of years many students from the city are cracking national level examinations which are quite tough,” he said.

For AIEEE 2009, 9,62,119 candidates had appeared of which 1.80 lakh students would qualify for counselling. Nearly 30,000 students had appeared for the examinations from Nagpur and adjoining cities. Of these 300 managed to clear the exam.
