Following the Centre’s decision to declare the CPI (Maoist) as a terrorist organisation, Maharashtra has gone into high alert as it expects
repurcussions in Naxal-affected regions like Gadchiroli, Gondia and Chandrapur.
“Surveillance has been stepped up along Chhattisgarh border,” said Pankaj Gupta, the state Anti-Naxal Operations chief. IG (Nagpur range) Surinder Kumar said, “They are trying to outnumber us by forming large groups and we too have planned a similar operation. We are also expecting support from the Union government in the form of a contingent of paramilitary forces.”
