whom TOI spoke to on Wednesday.
TOI tracked down some merit holders from the 1995 and 1998 HSC batch from Nagpur, to find out what they have learnt after facing life for over one-and-half-decade since they walked out into different spheres of life after excelling in Standard XII. Every topper said, HSC exams only give you a small edge over others, as these marks open the first doors of success in life. But the overall success of an individual depends on many other factors, including his personality and what profession one chooses, said the toppers. There is no alternative to hard work, it is the only key to success, they said.
Every topper, now pursuing different careers across the country and even abroad, said on the eve of this year’s HSC results, with growing competition everyone has to strive hard to make it to the top. Your success depends on how you as an individual face the complexities of life, they said.
Dr Madhavi G Khode, who topped the 1995 board examination in Vidarbha with 96% from Shivaji Science College and had bagged the fourth position in state, is now an assistant collector in Nagpur.
She feels that to be successful in life one needs both a high intelligence quotient (IQ) and a high emotional quotient (EQ). But beyond this, the three Ps — perseverance, patience and positive attitude, which matter in success. A topper in the girls and vocational categories too, Khode completed MBBS from the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in gynaecology but left her MD course after a few months to join the IAS.
