Two persons, among four booked, have been arrested in connection with a big marks card scam, busted by the authorities, police said here today.
Chairman of Board of Studies of Physical Education of RSTM, Nagpur University Chandrakant Duble is also involved in the scam, police said. Duble was picked up last night from the city while a former physical education student Animesh Mandal was arrested earlier yesterday by Katol Police, near here.
According to police, the quartet were involved in manipulation of numbers in marks cards of BP Ed (Bachelor of Physical Education) one year degree course examination to increase the tally of marks for students and they used to demand Rs 15,000 from each student for their act.
Katol police registered offences under Section 7, 8 of Maharashtra University Board (Prevention of Malpractices in Examination Act 1992). Pro-Vice Chaancellor of varsity, Dr Gaurishankar Parasher lodged a complaint with police.
In-charge principal of Rani Laxmibai Sharirik Shilshan Mahavidyalaya, Rajendra Gore of Sawargaon, Narkhed,(Nagpur district) and Babulal Dhotre, a lecturer with Hazrat Baba Tajuddin College of Commerce, Katol were the other two involved in the scam of the summer examinations of 2009.
A group of students, whose results were withheld by the Varsity for certain suspicision, recorded the dealings in their mobile and handed them over to police.
Mandal was remanded to police custody till June 1 while Duble is being produced later in the day before a local court. Police are searching for two others involved in the scam.
