17 new unaided polytechnic intuitions have been approved to start operations from this academic year

Its indeed good news for students aiming to pursue diploma courses. As per Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) officials, 17 new
unaided polytechnic intuitions have been approved to start operations from this academic year.

Out of these 17, as many as 11 are opening up in Nagpur district alone while two each are opening in Wardha and Gondia, and one each in Bhandara and Chandrapur. With opening of these new institutions about 4,860 new seats will be added to the existing capacity of 6,200 in the region, thus taking the total number of seats to 11,060.

Most of these institutes have the capacity to admit 300 students each. Only Mukundrao Pannase at Hingna and Bhausaheb Mulak at Butibori have been permitted to admit 240 students each. Another institute in Chandrapur -- Mata Mahakali at Warora -- will be admitting 180 students in the first year.

All the new institutions will conduct classes in various branches like civil, mechanical, computer engineering, computer technology, information technology, electronics and telecommunication, construction and instrumentation among others. Rajshree Mulak Polytechnic for Women will offer a course in dress designing and garment manufacturing as well.

Ironically, none of these institutes will be a part of the first online admission process in the state schedule to begin from July 10. In fact, only five unaided institutes from the region out of total 25 are participating in the online process, as their participation was kept optional by the government.

According to DTE officials, as many as 54 institutions will be taking part in the first online process in Maharashtra of which 36 are government-run while 18 are aided polytechnics. A total of 16,750 seats are up for grabs in entire process which was divided into four rounds.
