Dr Ambedkar had embraced Buddhism way back on October 14, 1956 on the occasion of Dussera and the day is celebrated by his followers all over the country and grand programme is organised at Deekshabhoomi where the function was held 53
years ago.
With modal code of conduct in force in view of the state assembly elections on October 13, no political leader from either party was invited for the function. Samiti president and Kerala governor R S Gavai also could not attend the function.
A Thai Buddhist monk director of international Buddhists affairs, Thailand, Savai Chhotico was the chief guest while Samiti secretary Sadanand Fulzele presided over.
Divisional commissioner Sanjeev Kumar, district collector Praveen Darade, vice-chancellor of Nagpur University Dr S N Pathan and other officers were present on the occasion.
