Probe holds NMC staff responsible

The officials of Nagpur Municipal Corporation's birth and death registration department may be in trouble. The one-man inquiry committee
of headed by health officer Dr Milind Ganvir probing the NRI headbutting case in the department has held NMC officials responsible for the NRI's lodging his unusual protest, NMC sources informed.

The Adelaide (Australia)-based Raza Sharif, a former resident of Vaishali Nagar, was allegedly made to run from pillar to post for 15 days to get some corrections done in the birth certificates of his two sons - Danish and Dilshad. To protest the sloppy working of NMC birth and death registration department officials, Sharif had banged his forehead in the chamber of the Citizens Facility Centre chief.

Municipal commissioner Aseem Gupta had formed a one-man inquiry committee under Dr Ganvir to probe the incident. "During the one-month long enquiry Dr Ganvir recorded the statements of complainant Raza Sharif and all officials of birth and death department along with officials of CFC department. The inquiry found birth and death department officials responsible for forcing Raza to the point of desperation," sources said. Dr Ganvir will submit the report to the municipal commissioner on Wednesday. Gupta may initiate action against officers concerned afterwards, sources added.
