(ATKT) benefit extended by the state government, will begin from Friday across the city and neighbouring Pimpri-Chinchwad.
The ATKT benefit was announced in July by the state minister for school education Radhakrishna Patil but, the same led to a controversy and prompted student body Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad to move the Bombay high court. The admission process had since been halted by the court's stay order.
Recently, the high court passed a ruling upholding the ATKT scheme with certain modifications to ensure that the scheme applies to SSC failures not only from the March 2009 state board examination but also from all exams before.
On September 29, the education department issued a government resolution (GR) outlining the modified ATKT admission scheme. Based on the same, the Std XI centralised admission process committee and the deputy director of education for Pune held a meeting to chalk out the fresh admission programme.
Deputy director (education) Sunil Magar told TOI that close to 5,000 SSC failures in one or two subjects from the March 2009 will stand to benefit from the ATKT scheme. "We will have to see how many SSC failures from the board exams held before the March 2009 edition apply for ATKT benefit. A clear picture about the total number of applicants will emerge at the end of the application receipt process on October 4," he said.
The deputy director has declared an elaborate admission schedule, which begins with the sale and receipt of admission forms on October 2 and 3; announcement of a provisional merit list on October 4 and final merit list on October 6. All seat allotments are to be effected by way of table-round counselling system, said Magar.
